Resilience and Rebirth: The Journey of Kibbutz Holit After Tragedy
Kibbutz Holit, located just one mile from the borders of Gaza and Egypt, was once a thriving agricultural hub known for its milking institute and the Zucksenberg Juice Factory. Today, this courageous community of 170 members — one-third of them children and teens — is determined to rebuild after enduring immense tragedy.
On October 7, Holit suffered devastating losses: nine members were kidnapped to Gaza, seven were returned alive, and two were brought home after their bodies were found — including a woman originally from Ottawa, Ontario.
Despite the trauma, every resident has returned home. The kibbutz now looks like a construction site, but the spirit of renewal runs deep. The people of Holit are rebuilding their lives and community infrastructure with hope and resilience.
What’s the problem?
To create a safe and nurturing environment for the next generation, Holit urgently needs funding to rebuild and renovate vital facilities:
