ICEJ-Canada statement on the wave of Toronto-area antisemitic attacks, prompting Israeli President to say “all eyes are on Canada”

ICEJ-Canada stands with the Jewish community as we empathize with a profound sense of sadness and concern that Canada stands in the global spotlight for antisemitism. Three synagogues have been hit by gunfire in the Greater Toronto Area over the past week causing “heightened” fear in the Jewish community, calls for urgent action, and a disconcerting announcement from Israeli President Isaac Herzog that “all eyes are on Canada”.

Mr Herzog has expressed “deep alarm” which prompted a Zoom call with Jewish community leaders and rabbis.

We at ICEJ-Canada ask our Christian brothers and sisters to reach out in support of the Jewish community during this time of distress, which followed a shameful trend following October 7. We also ask for ongoing prayers against this ancient evil of antisemitism.

In the Christian ethic of love, we call on the Christian community to embrace and support the Jewish community in unison with ICEJ-Canada as we continue our ongoing work to “comfort ye my people”.
