The International Christian Embassy Jerusalem stands in solidarity with Israel in the face of violent Palestinian rioting, terror attacks and rocket attacks which continues to escalate in Jerusalem. Hundreds of Israelis and Palestinians have been injured including almost two-dozen Israeli police officers. 24 Palestinians have been killed. Israel said 15 Hamas operatives, including a Hamas battalion commander are among the dead.
Hamas targeted Jerusalem for first time in over 7 years with a barrage of rockets Monday evening (Israel time). Shortly before midnight, Israel’s military said Palestinian jihadists had already fired around 150 rockets into Israel. Thankfully, dozens were intercepted by Israel’s missile defence systems.
The Palestinian leadership, Hamas and Islamic Jihad were enflaming Palestinian passion during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan prior to the outbreak. Iran’s supreme Shia leader Ayatollah Khameinei also issued a Palestinian call to jihad on Quds Day, May 7th.
On the other hand, Israel’s military liaison to the Palestinians, Maj. Gen. Ghassan Alian, tried to ease tensions by reaching out in a statement to Palestinians that Israel is “dedicated to allowing freedom of worship in Jerusalem to all religions.”
The Middle East region has recently experienced a significant and unprecedented momentum towards normalization and peace through the Abrahamic Accords. That peace is now threatened.
Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan has summoned the UN and Organization of Islamic Cooperation to mobilize efforts against Israel. He has also falsely stated: “The cruel Israel, terror state Israel is mercilessly and unethically attacking Muslims in Jerusalem.”
This turn of events follows the International Criminal Court’s antagonism toward Israel to investigate it for “war crimes”, and Human Rights Watch condemning Israel for being an “apartheid”, “occupying” state.
Anita Delhaas, the chief executive of the International Community of the Holy Sepulchre, has stated:
“For too long hateful ideologies have been allowed to go unchecked, and the result is what we are witnessing in Jerusalem. Frequent attacks on holy sites, threats and intimidation of worshippers, and mob behaviour in the city’s streets reflect alarming intolerance towards other religious communities.”
Let us remember that Israel was attacked by surrounding Arab state countries from the day of its birth in 1948, again in 1967 (Six-Day War), in 1973 (Yom Kippur War) and efforts to delegitimize and ultimately destroy Israel continue to be perpetrated by the Palestinian Authority, the PLO, Hamas, Fatah, Islamic Jihad, and Iran.
The Jewish claim to its historic, biblical homeland is indisputable, but its enemies have repeatedly threatened to ignite a regional conflagration over Israel’s righteous claim, and over its Holy city of Jerusalem. We call upon Christians to pray:
Isaiah 54:17 No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord,
Psalm 122:6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee.
Isaiah 66:10 Be glad for Jerusalem and rejoice over her, all who love her. Rejoice greatly with her, all who mourn over her
Jeremiah 29:7 Seek the prosperity of the city to which I have sent you as exiles. Pray to the LORD on its behalf, for if it prospers, you too will prosper.”
Psalm 29:11 The LORD gives His people strength; the LORD blesses His people with peace.
