SHARREN HASKEL

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Member of Knesset

Sharren is 41 years old and married to Eyal. She is the mother of five-year-old Yael and three-year-old twins Gabriel and Raphael.

Sharren was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and is the middle of three sisters in a Jewish family. Her father, Amir, was born in Israel and comes from a family of Palmach veterans from moshav Tzofit. Her mother, Fabienne, was born in Morocco. Amir and Fabienne met in Paris and moved to Toronto when Fabienne got a job as an English teacher. The family moved to Israel a year after Sharren was born. She grew up in Kfar Saba and studied theatre at Katznelson High School, where she was a Scouts leader. Later, she transferred to Ankori High School to study cinema.

At 18, she served in the Israel Defense Force, as a combat soldier in the Border Guards during the Second Intifada. This shaped her views about Israeli security and politics both at home and abroad. During her service, Deputy Minister Haskel served as a commander, demonstrating her leadership skills and commitment to her country.

Following her military service, Deputy Minister Haskel pursued a career in veterinary medicine. She graduated as a certified veterinary nurse in Australia, where she worked in an animal hospital and volunteered with WIRES, an organization dedicated to wildlife rescue.

Deputy Minister Haskel holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and International Relations from The Open University in Israel, where she also was the Israeli national debating champion. Deputy Minister Haskel entered the Knesset (Israeli Parliament) in 2015 at the young age of 31.

Since then, she has been an active member of several committees, including the Foreign Affairs, Defense, Home Affairs, and Budget committees. She is currently a member of the National Unity party.

Sharren is a classic liberal, and was awarded numerous times for her legislation on economic freedom, civilian and religious liberties. Haskel supports stronger border security, affordable housing, strong national security and improving Israel’s global presence.

Deputy Minister Haskel was recently the co-chair of the Knesset Christian Allies Caucus and successfully sponsored a bill through the Knesset for stopping the activity of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA).

In November 2024, she was sworn in as the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs. Haskel has been recognized by the Jewish Journal in the U.S. as a leader of a new generation of women in politics for her extensive international work defending Israel’s right to exist. Additionally, she has received high scores in the Liberty Index, which rates Knesset members based on how their performance promotes individual freedom.
