STANDING WITH CANADA’S JEWISH COMMUNITY
Today marks three years since the October 7 massacre—a solemn anniversary that reminds us why standing with the Jewish people remains so important. In this timely message, ICEJ Canada National Executive Director Donna Holbrook responds to the recent hate-motivated attack outside Belleville’s historic Sons of Jacob Synagogue and the troubling rise of antisemitism across Canada. She reaffirms ICEJ Canada’s commitment to stand with the Jewish community through prayer, practical support and advocacy, and calls Christians to remain steadfast in friendship and solidarity.
ICEJ-CANADA Statement in Memory of October 7, 2023:
This day, October 7, is a day of solemn remembrance for Zionists everywhere. It is a day to recall the unthinkable: the barbarity that Hamas inflicted upon Israeli citizens and upon Jews everywhere, whose ethos since the Holocaust has been “never again”. That ethos was breached on October 7, 2023.
1,200 mostly civilians were murdered, and another 251 people were taken hostage to bear unspeakable suffering. October 7, 2023 became the deadliest single day for Jewish people since the Holocaust and the bloodiest day in Israel’s history.
Evil violated the Jewish nation’s borders, and initially, sympathies flowed, until propaganda turned the tables to assault the Jewish people all over again. As Hamas hid behind human shields, the deaths of Palestinians tallied up, resulting in Israel, not Hamas, being wrongly blamed for “genocide”.
Antisemitism is now at unprecedented heights as Israel defended itself from the pure evil of Muslim Brotherhood offshoot Hamas and surrounding terrorists like Hezbollah, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, Houthis and Iran.
In Canada, the Israeli Ambassador to our country, Iddo Moed, stated that Canada has become “one of the centres of antisemitism globally.” This is a sad commentary on our country’s moral state.
Christian friends of Israel and Jews weep in our souls with you.
Today, as we remember October 7, we at ICEJ-Canada are aligned with truth as we pray for and stand with Israel and our Jewish friends through this day and beyond.
